Come and enjoy this evening with some of the finest poets writing today - Meryl Pugh, Philip Hancock, Kathryn Maris, Róisín Tierney and Graham Clifford blend wit, wisdom and history with a razor-sharp sense of the now.
More about the Poets: Graham Clifford is an award winning poet, based in London. He graduated from the University of East Anglia with an MA in Creative Writing, and has since published nationally and internationally, winning many awards and performing at some of the most prestigious and well known Literary Festivals. His debut collection, The Hitting Game, recently published by Seren, includes The Best Poem Ever Written, highly commended in this year's Forward Prize. www.grahamclifford.co.uk Meryl Pugh grew up in Wales, New Zealand, East Anglia and the Forest of Dean, where her family settled. Short-listed for the New Writing Ventures Poetry Prize in 2005. She is a Hawthornden Fellow and a PhD candidate at UEA and lives in Norwich and London, where she teaches creative writing. Her works include Relinquish (Arrowhead Press 2007), her first pamphlet and The Bridle (Salt 2011). Róisín Tierney is an Irish poet who taught for several years in Spain and Ireland and is now settled in London. Her most recent pamphlet, Dream Endings (Rack Press) won the 2012 Michael Marks Pamphlet Award. Her debut collection, The Spanish-Italian Border is published by Arc publications. www.roisintierney.blogspot.com. Philip Hancock’s pamphlet Hearing Ourselves Think (Smiths Knoll 2009) was a Guardian Books of the Year choice 2010. Further work appeared in OxfordPoets 2010 (Carcanet), and more recently in Areté, New Statesman and Spectator. Kathryn Maris is from New York City. She has won a Pushcart Prize, an Academy of American Poets award and fellowships from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and Yaddo. She lives in London, where she teaches creative writing and writes essays and reviews. God Loves You (Seren) was published in 2013 and is her second collection of poems, following The Book of Jobs, which was published in the US in 2006.
